If such a
demonstration indicated that, almost five years after its demise, Led Zeppelin
remained as important to rock fans ever, another seven years have done
nothing to diminish that importance. Popularity is what the music business
is all about, but it's hard to think of many performers who could, with
a single announcement, sell out as many stadiums in the US as they might
desire. In 1989, The Who and the Rolling Stones demonstrated they could.
Certainly, Bruce Springsteen retains that kind of commercial potency, as
does U2. It's possible a Police reunion could play to sold-out stadiums.
And of course, if the surviving Beatles got together... but that's about
it. These few and, of course, Led Zeppelin.
